Platt began his career with GSX in 1987 and has spent 34 years in the environmental services industry in a variety of roles including sales, technical operations, management, and executive leadership. In 2007, Platt joined a team that founded VLS Recovery Services, LLC, from the purchase of Vopak assets. Beginning with one commercial, non-hazardous waste facility in Mauldin, South Carolina, Platt led growth from nothing to a projected $150 million enterprise with 21 locations throughout the U.S. and Mexico. He was the key advisor to multiple acquisitions, greenfield builds, and facility expansions.
During his tenure as Vice President of Waste Services, Platt’s vision led to a new brand of Sustainability. He developed the market for high-end customer service, Waste-to-Energy blend processing. Early on, Platt secured several key national accounts and critical partnerships with cement kilns that drove a tremendous expansion of the market. His commitment to Sustainability led to the creation of innovative programs to process non-hazardous waste. To support Zero Waste initiatives in the automotive manufacturing industry, Platt created the Alternative Engineered Fuel (AEF) program. He built a greenfield facility in Gray Court, South Carolina, to process and shred non-hazardous secondary materials into a highly sought after fuel that has been trademarked “Shredded Heat.” With Waste-to-Energy and AEF processing, VLS has diverted from landfill over one million tons of waste and secondary materials.
After moving to a Senior Advisor role in 2020, Platt continued to assist the VLS team with acquisitions and brand development. With the recent acquisitions of Pacific Trans Environmental Services and Environmental Resource Corporation (ERC), Platt has returned to the role of VP of Waste Service to lead the VLS team into the future.
